Running 35s: What You Actually Need to Know

35-inch tires are the most popular upgrade for Colorado trucks and Jeeps. They look aggressive, improve ground clearance significantly, and perform well on the trail. But fitment is not simple - the wrong lift height or wheel offset results in rubbing, steering issues, and premature wear.

At Truckwerks, we spec 35-inch tire fitment for dozens of builds every year. Here's the real breakdown of what it takes to run 35s cleanly on the most common platforms.

  • 35s on most trucks require 3.5-4 inch lift minimum
  • Correct wheel offset is critical to prevent rubbing on full lock
  • Some platforms require minor trimming even with correct lift height
  • Proper alignment is required after installing 35-inch tires

35-Inch Fitment by Lift Height

What it takes to run 35s on the most common truck and Jeep platforms.

3-3.5 Inch Lift with 35s

On some platforms, 35s will barely fit on a 3-3.5 inch lift with specific wheel offsets. Tight fitment - not recommended without verification for your exact model.

3.5-4 Inch Lift with 35s

5-6 Inch Lift with 35s

35s are very comfortable at 5-6 inches. This range also opens up 37-inch fitment on many platforms with the right wheel offset.

35-Inch Tire Fitment Questions

What truck owners ask about running 35-inch tires.

Can I run 35s on a stock truck?
On a few trucks, 35s barely fit stock - but you'll have rubbing issues on full steering lock. You typically need 3.5-4 inches of lift and correct wheel offset for 35s to clear properly.
What wheel offset do I need for 35-inch tires?
Offset depends on your specific truck and lift. Too much positive offset and you'll rub the inner fender. Too much negative and you'll exceed track width limits. We calculate it exactly.
Will I need to trim my fenders for 35s?
On some platforms, yes - particularly on full steering lock at ride height. We'll tell you upfront if your truck needs trimming for 35s.
Do 35-inch tires require a re-gear?
For most V8 trucks, 35s run fine without re-gearing. For smaller engines or trucks used for towing, re-gearing improves performance and reduces strain on the drivetrain.
